This company appeared in 1978 after the Castiglioni brothers bought the Italian company Aermacchi from Harley-Davidson (which Harley-Davidson had acquired to compete with Japanese motorcycle manufacturers in the field of sports models). Aermacchi was renamed Cagiva (Ca + Gi + Va - the name is derived from Castiglioni, Giovanni and Varese). And quite quickly, the new company became the largest in Italy.

In 1986, Cagiva buys Husqvarna, the oldest European manufacturer of motorcycles, and 11 years later, in 1997, Cagiva acquires MV Agusta - the legendary brand that was in oblivion at that time. And it seems that both companies are flourishing - new models appear, motorcycles win the next Grand Prix and become the best models at exhibitions. But new developments require more and more investments, the company's debts are growing, and already in 2007 the Husqvarna brand is sold again - this time to BMW.
